Your Special Haven

Imagine having a special haven. A beautiful special place all to yourself that you can do, be, say whatever you so choose. You can make your mark here and stay here time after time. This space is yours for the taking, the making. You can dream up, design and create beauty all around you. The walls and floors are canvases just yearning for your individual contribution, your essence to hit. The colours, themes, light and spaces are yet to be defined. Nobody else can enter your haven without permission. Nobody has access to your domain, your dwelling, your sanctuary, your retreat. Only you have the key.

Your haven is a place for everything you have, you are. A space to rest, think, lie, sit, stretch, breathe, act, play, write, draw, make, create, see, dream, eat, drink, sleep and just be you. However you are feeling you can come here and take time away from the world, time for yourself. Whether you are feeling restful, thoughtful, fearful, bashful or wonderful your haven is like a blanket ready to warm you up and hold you still whilst you replenish yourself before it’s time to leave.

How your haven looks and feels is down to you. As is the support and nourishment it offers you. As the creator you have full choice in it’s identity. You are responsible for every single area surrounding you. If things in your haven are out of place, messy, cluttered, dirty or uncared for only you can restore it back to it’s ideal state. If in your special place you feel flat, uninspired, unbalanced, trapped or unclear only you can help change these feelings.

We each have a special haven, whether we have fully embraced it or not. Our bedroom is just this! Our very own personal room, our blanket, our nest. What we receive from it depends greatly or what we give to it. If we choose to love it and use it carefully we will surely reap the benefits. If we plant the right seeds our garden will grow!

I love my bedroom! And I love my own personal place. I take great pride in keeping my space clear and tidy so I can feel clarity and space within me. I know well how my environment affects me, what goes on on the outside matters on the inside. I choose colors that resonate with me, whites, blues, yellows and purples to keep me calm, cool and balanced. I choose simplicity for peace of mind. I am a minimalist which helps me focus on things individually and carefully, and in the present. I make sure that I have space for yoga, to breathe, stretch, be on the wall, and lie down. I allow as much light in as possible to aid my vision. These are my personal choices for my haven.

This morning I did something that I do several times a year. I rearranged all of the furniture in my haven. From the moment I woke up I knew it was time for change in my close environment. This Spring has been a time of great change for me. More and more I am feeling aligned with my true self, my core, my values. I am refining my attention to the things that matter to me most. And in this process I am experiencing a great shift within me. This morning I wanted to express my internal emotional change in my physical visual reality. As I cleared away the things in my room which were out of date and unused I felt amazing. I now stand on new ground, new space and I feel totally refreshed!

Are you living in a special haven? How does your bedroom look and feel to you? Do you feel happiness in being here, nestled in a warm, safe blanket? Or is it time for a change, a shift or even a complete rearrangement?

Make your special haven represent you, the true you. Do not compromise on something so important.

My Special Haven today

Spring into Yoga!

Today is a beautiful sunny Spring day!

A perfect day you might say. I can hear the birds cheeping, see the daffodils all over my garden, smell the roses and taste pure nature!

This afternoon I went for a bike ride on the Milldown, a lovely open space of countryside next to my house. My very happy and energetic black lab Bungle ran excitedly next to me, whilst I was cycling and breathing in as much Spring air as I could inhale!

I’ve enjoyed some homemade rolls with hummus, smoked salmon and salad, some delicious fruit, yogurt and almond butter (similar to peanut butter except almonds! mmm!) on rye bread.

As it’s Spring I thought it a great time to Spring clean my bedroom! I put on some uplifting Shiva Rea CD, opened my window wide and decluttered my draws and cleared the space. Decluttering is one of my favourite things to do as it helps me to clear physical and mental space. Afterwards I felt clearer and much more focused.

The most of the day and also my favourite part is being part of a yoga photo shoot! And I’m proud to say I created it my self! Not wanting to miss out on the sunshine and taking the opportunity to practice my beloved yoga it seemed a fab thing to do. So I set myself up in front of some beautiful flowers in my garden and placed my mat in front of the sun. I picked my outfit carefully, two tops: a turquoise blue one I haven’t worn since last Summer and a pink one with some fitted three-quarter length trousers. Nice and bright for Spring! Then I put the timer on my camera ready for the shoot! It felt amazing doing my asanas outside surrounded by beauty. My body came alive as I stretched into various postures. Ahhhh.

It’s nearing the evening now and I’m feeling very happy with myself and my day. I feel healthy and very alert.

The main reason I’m feeling so happy is because I’m pleased with the choices I’ve made today. This morning I didn’t feel good.

Despite it being a beautiful Spring day I did not feel cheerful and I lay under my covers for most of the early hours. I got up and had my porridge and then went back to bed.

I had a sick feeling in my stomach and felt quite low. I didn’t like the idea of doing yoga, going to the Milldown or even getting up!

After a while I decided to read some of my inspiring book in hope I might feel differently and find some of the motivation I was lacking. I didn’t push myself to get up, but instead I just asked myself gently what I wanted to do. Did I want to stay in bed all day? What could make me feel better? What kind of a day did I want to have? I put these questions out there. And the answers just came to me…

I have taken good care of myself today, saying peaceful, gentle words and this has led me to having a super day.

I thank the words I read in my inspiring books, I thank the gentle approach I have taken with myself and I thank Spring for entering my day.

Sometimes we don’t have good mornings. Sometimes we wake up uninspired, flat or sick. But we still have choice. We still have choice of how we want our day to progress.

We can choose how we treat ourselves, we can choose how we start the day and how we will end the day. What can happen can amaze you. You can feel totally transformed form start to finish.

For me today I knew what would work best and I didn’t need to force myself. I was simply loving and created space and I surely choose well. I chose to put a Spring in my step.
